This vintage film demonstrates the skill and artistry required in acting when words are not available. Partially based on fact, this biography of the life of the famous dandy beau brummel is funny, sad, romantic, tragic and engaging. all of the actors play their roles with passion and dramatic excess--the lead women are glamorous, elegant, seductively coy, and very well costumed; the king is pompous and silly, and beau is so very droll and above it all (or is he?). the rise and fall of this historic character is a fascinating study of the impact of royal favor, the challenge of class in society, and the doomed romance of a lonely libertine. the roaring 20's setting adds a unique dimension!

Considering the other many John Barrymore (Yes Drew Barrymore's Grandfather) films I have seen I was unfortunately rather bored with this film. His character Beau Brummell is by far no where near as likeable as his other famous film characters. The film has some wonderful costumes but the film is too long & rather dull...veer towards his other works.

Strange, and sad. I watched it because John's performance was great. Loved his quirky character and John's use of his expressions.

This romantic drama is pretty standard for tragic romance, but the actors are really good. Overall, it's just okay, there's nothing really great about it.

Great silent film with an amazing cast. The final scenes are among the finest.
