Becky

It has a certain retro throwback pleasure for anyone still longing for the days of VHS...squishy gore effects, a nostalgic charm...

The lesson here is don't mess with the inner rage of a teenage girl. But Becky's crazed kills get more and more gimmicky, and there's nothing in the script to indicate what has turned her into a pint-sized death-dealer.

This is a film of gimmicks, most of them rather tired.

No one is bad in the film, but it just feels really haphazard. It seemed like characters were positioned throughout the movie by the writers.

...it's Becky who channels her teen angst into exceedingly clever and increasingly cruel ways to fight back. Watching Wilson doing so from the start and with a bit of a smirk is wholly compelling.

The King of Queens star makes a convincing monster in this gory horror thriller...

On the whole, Becky is a well-paced and action-driven distraction with an unlikely hero. It's a perfect vehicle for its two leads, who are certainly suited for these kind of out-of-the-box roles.

While not entirely original, the violent revelry imbued in Becky's core and the terrific lead performance make it a worthy watch.

Becky is a breezy blast and a gnarly genre gem that horrifically turns the plot of Home Alone on its head, with terrific turns from Lulu Wilson and Kevin James.
