Black and Blue

The movie falters when pushed beyond its intriguing premise to a meaningful message.

This is a film that pulls off the impressive trick of being gritty and cheesy at the same time.

This is just a cops-ploitation, scream-at-the-screen picture, but I had a lot of fun with it with an audience.

A film that I like despite the fact that it has [plot] holes you can drive a truck through.

I wish I liked Black and Blue more.

Strong performances by Naomie Harris and Tyrese Gibson aren't enough to save this predictable and sometimes maddeningly stupid shoot-'em-up.

After a promising start, with a strong Harris in the lead, Black and Blue gives way to a generic against time thriller.

There’s an effective, nuanced way to tell a story tackling this issue. Black and Blue does the exact opposite of that, eschewing all nuance and subtlety to make the most generic version of this story as possible.

I think that people right now feel that there needs to be some serious conversation about what we can do for reconciliation between the police and the community... This movie just doesn't contribute to that.

Poised to be something different, Black and Blue is sadly a misfire...
