, 78% Audience Score- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars2024: this movie does not age well at all
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsMassively underrated at the time, this French historic/fantasy genre movie stands out above the rest. Even the dubbing in the English version is done well!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsBased on a famous French legend, BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF is an early example of now-common genre mashup, effectively blending historical drama, gothic horror, martial arts action and more. Two aspects haven't aged well: an Asian "Native American" character, and some crucial special effects. That said, the film remains richly atmospheric and often entertaining, even if the plot and pacing don't always cohere. [Reviewing the 2.5 hour Director's Cut]
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsA gloriously pulpy mashup of genres with Gans making a compelling case for style being substance.
