Christmas Bloody Christmas

a young independent woman’s nightmare (of patriarchy) before Christmas.

This is a gruesome slice of holiday cruelty that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t try to be anything else, and that’s exactly as it should be.

The overall vibe here ends up being less “good dirty fun” than “foul-mouthed teenager trying to look cool.”

Like Begos’ last couple of movies, Christmas Bloody Christmas plays out like a fuzzy, half-remembered recreation of the psychotronic cinema of Begos’ adolescence.

It’s a blast and a half.

The cinematic equivalent of a cheap soap and body lotion set bought at the last minute.

While Christmas Bloody Christmas doesn’t come close to reinventing the Holiday horror film subgenre, it does deliver delightful exploitation cinema-like kills and stylistic tendencies.


I appreciate the attention to horror movie detail and the Terminator-like stamina of the villain. It’s got some warts, but it’s a bonkers Christmas horror movie... in a good way.

Christmas Bloody Christmas is an unabashed holiday treat that knows exactly what it is and what its audience is hoping to get from a “killer robot Santa” horror film.

Writer-director Joe Begos' killer Santa story lives up to that title, and then some.
