The storytelling economy (small cast, one main location) is welcome, but none of the four characters is the sharpest tool in the shed, and whatever insights Hodierne intends on the cutthroat world of crypto remain elusive.

A shrewd and suspenseful thriller about three would-be working-class vigilantes determined to retrieve their investments from an amoral scammer.

There’s a lot of nerd talk about passkeys, cold wallets and whatnot, but the film is to its credit much more interested in psychology rather than tech, and the fine lines between avarice, rage and impotence that make the capitalist world go round.

Castillo works as a guy very much at the end of his rope, and Brener feels genuinely menacing as a manipulative, sociopathic, apex predator of Darwinian capitalism.

Cold Wallet tells a compelling story with incisively drawn characters.

Cold Wallet is not a great movie about the consequences of cryptocurrency scamming. It's better taken as a dark comedy instead of a serious thriller. The performances are watchable, and there's enough suspense to keep most viewers engaged in the story.

Cold Wallet is crushed by contrasting tones and short changes what could have been a gripping and cautionary tale to leave you feeling out of pocket.

Despite its bid for topicality, Cold Wallet is a dull home invasion thriller with derivative beats and nonsensical dialogue. Oliver Stone claimed Money Never Sleeps, but apparently cryptocurrency is soporific.

Cold Wallet’s biggest problem is that it doesn’t go big enough. The stage is set for intense drama to unfold, but just when you think something exciting is going to happen, the suspense fizzles out.
