Director James Mark keeps the imagery sleek and the atmosphere intriguing but, even when another person appears, it's difficult to care about characters and a situation that are so undefined.

An admirable albeit flawed evolution of Mark’s genre filmmaking, this delivers some of his familiar bloody carnage but functions as more of an enigmatic thriller. Despite a solid lead, early intrigue, and late action, this felt like a misfire by the end.


While Control may be limited by its budget, it’s certainly not hampered by a lack of imagination.

Making the best of its single room setting (reminiscent of cult classic Cube), James Mark's sci-fi thriller achieves a lot with a little – snappy visuals, a simple concept, and a compelling lead performance.

There are some smart ideas here which help to keep the film interesting even if they never quite achieve their potential.

A slow and steady walk through sci-fi conventions, Control’s slightly pedestrian narrative hampers it slightly. The inclusion of a stellar action sequence and a couple of deviations though helps it remain an entertaining viewing experience
