Countdown

The constant loud noises and jump scares of Countdown are only enjoyable for truly novice horror watchers.

We've seen these jump scares, and we've traveled this road many times before. It's competently made and isn't the worst way to spend an hour and a half, but it's also pretty forgettable.

The writing in this film is honestly embarassing.

It's pretty taut, pretty tense, and a lot of good, solid jump scares.

As proven by Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Final Destination 3 or the spunky Jessica Rothe in Happy Death Day, these fate-driven, high-concept horror flicks can be redeemed by a committed central performance. Countdown's Elizabeth Lail joins their company.

The final act is a groan-inducing slap to the face that had me wanting to throw popcorn at the screen in indignation.

[Countdown] ended up being a major letdown. 



COUNTDOWN is a bland techno-horror that relies too heavily on ineffective scares to get a rise out of the viewer. Boring and forgetful.

If nothing else at least it instills one piece of life-changing wisdom to smartphone owners everywhere – ALWAYS read the user agreement!
