Marketed in the UK under the alternative name "The Dam" I picked up this DVD in Sainsbury's one evening for £7. I figured it'd be one of those typical Hollywood disaster movies but as it turned out it was a Bollywood disaster movie! For a Bollywood movie (I have seen my fair share) it is remarkably devoid of elaborate dance numbers or lengthy female solo song features. According to the official website The Dam aka DAM999 is an emotional thriller, however as a bloke watching a disaster movie I found the emotional pressures just a sideline story in the build up to the disaster * You hardly need a spoiler alert to figure out that the dam will burst. * This widescreen movie was nominated for 5 Oscars and was the first ever Indian film shown at the Golden Rooster ("Chinese Oscars") film festival.

Watch Dam 999. Understand the issue. Feel the way the actors do. This is a new future for Indian Cinema! Dam999 is a socially enlightening film. The concept was too good and was excellently shot. 4 stars from my side. No way should anyone who reads the news miss this movie Dam 999. It's a wonderful film and is an eye-opener.

Torturous! A totally confused movie. Amateurish acting by the main cast. A story line that lacks direction. Is this about Ayurveda, or an effort showcase traditions of Kerala? The matter of the dam is completely obscured by other story elements which are vague anyway.. This could have been made into a gripping movie, but the director seems to have "lost the plot".
