The movie's trailer consistently made me groan in recent months. Surprisingly, the trailer highlights some of the movie's weakest aspects. My main gripe lies in the humor, which often falls flat. Jokes are incessantly forced, appearing every 10 seconds, regardless of their quality. It's not a matter of "kid-humor" that eluded me as a 25-year-old; even the young audience members in my theater remained mostly silent. Nevertheless, approximately 10% of the jokes resonated with me, prompting genuine belly laughs unexpectedly. The standout aspect of this film, for me, was its characters. Each character possesses distinct traits, quirks, and flaws that they navigate emotionally throughout the narrative. Despite its formulaic, cliched, and predictable nature, the movie remains engaging, offering cathartic moments in nearly every scene for at least one character. Remarkably, I found myself invested in these animal characters, despite the film's absurdity. While nothing groundbreaking, the movie's vibrant and competent execution earns it some merit. It may not be entirely original, but its colorful presentation and solid execution make it a decent watch. Spending an hour and a half on this film isn't the worst way to relax on a weekend with the family.

A very good story, an original villain, and a great cast... this is a pretty damn good movie. Keanu Reeves as Batman? Yes, please! The kids all loved this movie as it has been viewed oodles of times in this household. We all want a sequel!!

A huge improvement over Warner Animation Group's last three attempts at making movies with preexisting WB IP which were average at best and pretty bad at worst, DC League of Super-Pets is good but not flawless. While the art style and character designs are mostly appealing except Cyborg's hideous half-afro, the animation, while not bad, is rather bland and action sequences don't have a lot of weight to them. Whether or not this was because of the pandemic and/or having a smaller team than the much more visually stunning Space Jam 2, I'm not really sure but Megamind came out 12 years prior and looked much better. But once again, I'm not calling the animators lazy. There's a side to every story after all. There's also some rather weak elements that bugged me (the humans can't understand the animals, why are they being considerate enough to let them finish their sentences? Also, I'm not saying the film should go into Doctor Dolittle mode but why, in a world with superheroes, do none of them have the ability to understand them? On the whole though, the utilisation of animal-speak is not as glaring as it was in Vivo) and the post-credits scene, which I thought was a cynical advertisement for a then-upcoming film*, has aged poorly. Fortunately, once you get past the temptation to snark that the superhero genre really is getting desperate if they're willing to make a movie about Batman and Superman's dogs, Super-Pets is overall one of the more enjoyable superhero movies of 2022. I mean, I'd hate to beat a dead horse (after all, one reason I was anticipating 2023 was because it meant that the Internet would finally shut up about it), but it is sad that this explicitly family-oriented animated film focusing on sentient animals had more mature storytelling and tonal consistency than the teen-oriented Thor: Love and Thunder, which came out recently. Quite the parallels with what happened with Ragnarok (yay!) and Josstice League (nay!), even if Thor 4 still had the last laugh financially. The characters are likeable, the jokes stick the landing more often than not, Krypto goes through good character development as he learns to come to terms with Superman in love and, as the animation studio that brought you The Lego Movie taught us, realises that everything is cool when you're part of a team and it's nice for this Johnson/Hart collaboration to not have the usual jokes at the latter's expense. A scene reminiscent of THAT one from Toy Story 2 is arguably one of the best moments between the duo I think I've witnessed in any of their collaborations. The rest of the cast is pretty good too. Keanu Reeves as Batman? Breathtaking! TL;DR League of Super-Pets might be not be as consistently hilarious or gorgeously rendered as previous WGA/DC production The Lego Batman Movie but it's still a cute superhero film guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It's certainly a better superhero movie starring The Rock than the one he was hyping up as the "important" one anyway. *While one could say the same of half of the MCU films, at least those were part of the same franchise

Great premise. Bad Execution. Not family-friendly at all. Kinda boring to be honest.

This movie was so much fun. I think the voice actors might have enjoyed it more than I did viewing it. This is what we need right now. Make some popcorn and share with the Fam.
