You wish the film had been braver in its intention of creating a really cracking rom-com, instead of playing its clichés for a laugh.

Is that enough to override the problems of the movie, that I was fairly amused? Ultimately, I wouldn't say so.

The truth is that 3DP (on a good day, this would stand for Deepika Padukone being third in a guestlist) isn't a very thoughtful "social comedy."

De De Pyaar De, which has its rare moments, never holds up: It's no different than innumerable Hindi films that lets its hero get what he wants over the course of two hours.

Tabu is the only breath of fresh air here; she is unaffected and natural as can be. It is only when she is on screen that the film is infused with life.

The writing of the film packs a few punches but they all come in spurts. A quicker pace and a pithy script could have elevated debutant director Akiv Ali's film a notch higher.

The next time you see Ajay Devgn making eyes as a woman far younger than him, you have every right to be sceptical.

Propelled by hypocrisy and deceit at every turn, De De Pyaar De resorts to the age-old pretext of cold feet and lies to slump into a modern family mockery.

De De Pyaar De's sense of humour continues in the second half, but the misogyny too is now front and centre...

It tackles a tough topic, but does so with a sense of humour, and that's why we'd recommend it.
