I really don't get the critic complaints about this movie other than the fact that they can't get over how someone who is too old to be a high school student plays the main role. They can handle watching a show where someone runs the speed of sound or can fly, but seeing an overaged high school student somehow breaks their suspension of disbelief. This movie is really heart warming, conflicting, and sad all at the same time. As a parent, I sympathize with how easily and willingly they created the lie that Evan Hansen felt obliged to abide by. As someone who had low confidence in high school, I also get why Evan didn't feel right about dispelling this lie and instead carried it out the way he did. As a movie watcher, I also get why the movie had to end the way it did as the lie had to eventually be revealed and consequences were needed. I actually felt like all of this was done EXTREMELY well with the exception of how the downfall of the lie was kicked off by that letter being shared. That felt pretty forced but outside of that this movie was so great. I come back to it all the time just to feel the emotions that it conveys throughout. So glad I watched this movie and I encourage others to watch it as well. And remember, you are never alone :)

I've been a fan of Ben Platt since "Pitch Perfect" and a fan of Kaitlyn Dever since "Booksmart". To see both of them onscreen together made me smile. This movie is an incredible piece of art that shows how none of us are alone. A must see for anyone who liked the Broadway show and the novelization.

I don’t understand why the critics were so harsh. Ben is a little old to still be in high school but I can’t imagine anyone else in the role. The supporting actors are wonderful and the singing is top rate. I’ve seen it multiple times now and love it every time.

Basically all of the problems with the stage musical, which were mostly obscured by tight staging and excellent performances, are not just more noticeable here they make you seriously question how this was ever so popular. On top of that I'm not sure anyone involved with the production aspects has ever seen a musical before.

Beautifully executed with a star cast, Dear Evan Hansen is amazingly different from its stage predecessor. With fan favorite songs such as "Waving Through a Window" and "Sincerely, Me", this film is a great adaptation of the stage musical. Don't listen to all these people who say that Ben Platt is too old to play Evan Hansen. He's still got that talent to play Evan like nobody else has. And Kaitlyn Dever as Zoe Murphy was an incredible casting choice. Her singing really brings the character to the screen. Colton Ryan with his brief performance as Connor Murphy adds another reason as to why this film couldn't have been made better. A 100% must watch.

It's really sad this movie was pulled from theaters because the critics didn't like it. Most people will never see a Broadway show in their lives and critics were especially harsh on this movie because their privilege and narrow views. The movie was beautiful and heartbreaking and relevant. All teens and young adults should see this film and know they are not alone.

Really good storytelling and music but the main character is played by an older actor which makes it somehow off
