"In my opinion, some things are better left animated," was the last thing I said about the live-action movie. So does that mean Illumination's take is better? Yes, and no. On one hand, the art style is a pretty faithful modern recreation, however, on the other hand it felt like the creators missed one vital trait that makes the Grinch who he is, his total lack of empathy. The Grinch is a jerk, sure, but this interpretation felt more like an off-shoot of another Illumination villain, Gru, rather than how he was originally intended to be, an homage to Charles Dickens' Ebenezer Scrooge. This take opted to invent a sympathetic backstory for the Grinch which, in the end, felt inauthentic to his eventual end transition.

I am not like most; I think this animated version of The Grinch is as good as the original. I know most won't agree but there is something to the beautiful artwork that was done in this movie that makes it truly magical.

Terrible, really bad written. Ilumination only makes bad movies based on books, they try to put a 30 minutes book on a 1 hour movie and they FAIL to make It good. Just don't lose your time watching It.
