The dreams depicted here are all annoyingly soft-focus and Dalí-esque, with floating chessboards and multicoloured light shows.

If you just wanted to plonk everyone down in front of pretty shapes and colours for 80 minutes, then Dreambuilders will serve you on the same level as the loop-the-loops of last year's equally middling Wonder Park...

Dreambuilders is a stunning, charming animated adventure about a girl who discovers a secret portal through which she can control other people’s dreams.

While there's some imagination shown in creating the dream world, the characters are strictly subpar Pixar and Illumination wannabes (particularly the blue minions who inhabit the dreamscape).

Danish animated family film about dreams and family tension. Great to watch, but not a great deal to think about.

Not everyone will be a fan of the chunky animation style and admittedly the rendering isn't always seamless, but there's enough laughs, intrigue and innovation to ensure the slim running-time flies by.

The animation is mostly ordinary and predictable, matching the story perfectly. Not even the giant spider is all that scary...Oh, it's passable, innocuous fluff for the undemanding holiday movie-goer.

While the imagery is gorgeous, and the final half hour certainly an improvement upon what's preceded it, the overall impression of this animated film is one of being overwhelming underwhelmed.

A charming and engaging animation, though it won't win points for originality.

Ambitiously animated with beautiful details, this Danish adventure is a wonderfully vivid flight of fancy that taps into the imagination.
