Emergency Declaration

It's a strong movie... But maybe not what people are dialing up to see at this present moment.

This is still star-driven, big-screen goofiness writ large, something to be consumed with popcorn and a crowd, and that fact its hitting U.S. screens during the summer dog days couldn’t be more welcome.

A lumbering and desperate ode to our common humanity that also tries to scare and thrill viewers into submission.

The performances are uniformly solid, especially by the two leads, and the generally low-key cinematic style keeps us in the pocket of the story.

An easy dose of disaster movie joy.

From a storytelling perspective, seeing what Han can do with the interior of a plane — and a whole lot of CGI — is downright inspirational.

In the span of time it takes for a plane to fly from Seoul to Honolulu, a psychopath boards an airplane at Incheon and releases a deadly biological pathogen onboard, which results in passengers getting sick and/or dying (and turning on each other).

Emergency Declaration is thrilling and hits too close to home, given the world we’re living in now, but the film cannot stick the landing.

Emergency Declaration does not do anything groundbreaking in its depiction of an airplane hijacking, but this action flick delivers plenty of suspense to make it memorable. The movie's acting performances are also worth seeing.

A film that, despite is apparent seriousness, has fun with the possibilities of the genre. [Full review in Spanish]
