Mental health issues are a thing. I think this movie really touches on it in a great way.

An unexpectedly moving character piece with an outstanding performance by Riz Ahmed. At first, I did not know where this film was headed but as it unfolded, I found it to be a thoroughly compelling study of post war PTSD and its brutal effect on individuals and their loved ones. I'm pleased I watched this.

I'm tired of the critics complaining that Michael Pearce's "Encounter" starts out like a sci fi flick and turns into something else. So what? Riz Ahmed turns in an impassioned performance---I've seldom seen such a sympathetic character---and all the supporting actors, including the kids, are strong. The film never loses momentum, and the suspense is palpable right up to the final scene. I'm one of the few who hated Pearce's universally praised "Beast." I hated the arrogant, self-absorbed young characters and didn't care what happened to them. Here, I cared about this dad and his kids.

Well acted, well written screenplay. Actually a bit of a surprise as the story unfolds. Moderate violence, but conducted more as an understatement and within the confines of the movie, as opposed to being gratuitous. It is more of a character driven picture than an action movie. I recommend this movie, especially if you like an actual character driven movie.

It is NOT a sci-fi movie.
