It's simple and straightforward but well told and I'm generally a sucker for these kinds of romances. Using Stravinsky's ballet as the emotional centerpiece obviously does wonders for the movie.

A beautiful heartbreaking story. Big respect for the film.

Firebird's story is mature, sad, and satisfying. The two leads are extremely charming and bring the best out of their troubled characters. On top of that, the visuals for this film are stylish and pleasing. This film will stay with me for a long time.

It's a beautiful story based on real events. Apparently nothing has changed in Putin's Russia and that's the saddest aspect, which emerges while watching this film. Good acting and direction, nice settings and beautiful photography. However the dialogues are as surreal as in a movie of 70s. Zagorodnii and Prior together are simply amazing.

This movie so beautiful and sad in same time

Although it is one of the saddest gay romance movies I have ever seen, it is a cinematic masterpiece as a low budget film. A must watch for a drama with gay romance that isn't afraid to push real life buttons without pandering to stereotypes.

An absolutely excellent romance in cinema splendor, with a story based on truth regarding a gay relationship during the Cold War. The two leads are phenomenal, the director brings this home, and the cinematography should have top billing. Gorgeous to look at, splendid to be captivated by, and a heart tugger, too. How this movie got lost in the mainstream shuffle is a mystery, as it is miles above most movies released to the masses. A stunner, a melodramatic old-style piece of film-making using a relevant-to-today story. A classic in every way, including magnificent editing, sound editing, and production design. A+.
