Flora and Son

Hewson does an impeccable job as Flora, the movie's heart and soul.

This supposedly aspirational tale feels deeply cynical, promising love and happiness can be attained by anyone — if they are beautiful and can afford a MacBook, that is.

An old-school, old-fashioned and beautiful telling of a long-distance romance, but not without something new to say on kinships built in the digital age. This beautiful film will make your heart sing.

With great performances, catchy tunes, and light-on-its-feet filmmaking that’s much harder than it looks, “Flora and Son” is delightful.

“Flora and Son” has a quality that has always brought life to musicals, but that has now gone out of style. You might call it innocence.

Flora and Son played more charming than cloying to me. It’s a nice movie about people who are mostly nice -- deep down, anyway.

Eve Hewson is remarkable as a woman juggling responsibilities, a family falling apart, and new love in this next hit from John Carney, perfectly in his wheelhouse, sincere about love and the power of music (with more distinctly charming original songs)


Flora and Son plays a sincere and vulnerable melody that we’ve come to expect from Carney.

Flora and Son can do a few things well, but it doesn’t do many of them simultaneously. 

Flora and Son is the perfect showcase for her [Eve Hewson's] charming, naturalistic presence and the musical talent she’s clearly inherited from her famous dad.
