Game Changer - 5/10. Slightly better than Indian 2, but still a muddled and derivative output from Shankar. Its okay to take a break, and I honestly feel like Shankar needs a break. The problem with Game Changer is that its just adheres to the bare minimum of quality. Its just following the templates that Shankar helped popularize, and other directors have followed suit with. So much famous movies are being derived from and put into this movie (even The King’s Speech is being utilized here for a plot point). And is this really Karthik Subburaj’s script? If it is, then its been watered down and the final script just borrows certain elements from it. The problem that modern day Shankar has is his stubborn and tired emphasis on “bramandam.” I get it: he made a name for himself as the guy who brought spectacle to tamil cinema. Budgets weren’t really there back in the day, so if you wanted foreign locales, CGI, or high end production values, then Shankar films were the thing to watch. But even within those things lied a decent to good story. Even his “weakest” movies in his heyday still had something to say. The thing about Game Changer is that its just so basic for every plot point. Its not trying anything new, and the only new thing they’ve tried is doing some fancy music videos. The story is your typical do gooder (who just so happens to have an edge to him) against the establishment. You got the love track (which is so old school and tiresome), you got comedy (if a sideways walking character is funny, and if this movie’s comedy track is considered comedy then I really don’t know what else to say), you got action (which is over the top and feels surprisingly uninspiring for a Shankar movie), and you got drama (which feels like a mishmash of the greatest dramatic hits of the last few decades). Also, why in the world is Indian cinema having a tough time doing their mixing for the sound in their films? The audio and music in this film is booming so loud, and I get it that its supposed to make you feel like you’re watching something epic. Nice to see Thaman and Shankar reunited here though! But is it epic if you just blast the volume to max? The performances are okay, but nothing to write home about. The overall movie isn’t horrible, but its also just super redundant and safe that it just feels like I can shrug and say I’ve watched it to say I’ve watched it. The editing is fast paced, and it feels like I’m watching a bunch of Instagram reels stuck together. Overall, Game Changer isn’t terrible, but it isn’t good either. Its a run of the mill movie that has a gargantuan budget and a star cast which when boiled down to its core, deserves to be a better film. Average to say the least! And Shankar, its okay man, take a break. Stop saying that you don’t hear the bad reviews. Everyone has faced a bad film reception, heck, some more times than they like. The mark of a true artist is the ability to learn and grow from these things. Just cause you had a good streak doesn’t mean you’re immune to flaws or bad reception. If anything, take the break, use this motivation, and comeback strong once you’ve recharged yourself mentally and work wise. Otherwise, we will be just witnessing the downward spiral of a once mighty director in terms of the productions he’s associated with.

Good story line even though old commercial concept , script should have been better and narration so that it appear fresh . Ramcharan acting good and did justice for his role. Other charecters did what is supposed to be done. High production values and money spent is seen on screen. Better script and execution would have made this movie a blockbuster.

This is similar to Shivaji, Robo, Indian & cannot recomend to waste your money in theatre. Shankar Sir to work hard with suitable scenes & heros for the suitable charisma. Overall movie is not tasty but has so many recipes which could have been avoided.
