It certainly isn't in the same league as it's predecessor, but Gladiator II is still an incredibly entertaining movie with plenty of heart pounding action and drama.

The movie was a far cry from the first movie. The movie didn't really connect with the protagonist or other characters. There were historical inaccuracies and things that were simply not believable to the point where it wasn't entertaining.

GLADIATOR II plays fast and loose with history in order to spin a story that often feels less like a sequel than a nostalgic remake. The decadent sibling emperors are compelling, and Denzel Washington's performance is memorable. Beyond that, a too-familiar plot, some subpar CGI, and a forced sense of the "epic" all further deflate this rather tedious spectacle.

    Extremely disappointing.

Zero historical accuracy, its a hodgepodge of Roman history moments in a bad collage and in wrong times, like the invasion of Numidia 200 years late, the Battle of the Milvian Bridge 100 years early, the killing of Caracalla at the wrong time and place and the demise of Macrinus in a totally bogus fashion. Action OK too much CGI, the baboons looked terrible, Naumachia fine it happended in other venues not the Coloseum but ok but rhinos and sharks total fantasy. Why call it a historical epic its either an alternate universe or set on a fictional land, if you are not going to be true about the historical times do pure fantasy in the Revan Empire for example. No cafes (not even coffee discovered yet) in Rome and no daily newspaper, there was no printer yet......SO entertaining gut galling to history buffs

A good movie. Coincidentally, Very relevant and reflective of current situations.

Very thin and sophomoric plot line which serves as a vehicle merely to get from one boring fight scene to another and another and another. Extremely bad writing and acting with the exception of Washington.

A weak sequel, filled with named actors who barely phone in credible performances. Like "Alien: Covenant", this was like watching another director make a soulless sequel to a film without understanding the originals inherent magic - except that the director here was the original director.

If they were going to make "this" Gladiator 2, it really needed to happen 20+ years ago. Its absolutely LOADED with dialogue and references to the original, but its just been too long for the average person to pick up on them. Its a pretty good movie...not great and definitely not as good as the original but solid enough. It is notably missing a convincing antagonist. The buffoon twin emperors and the "just want to watch the world burn" (with no explanation) guy aren't cutting it. However, the biggest issue for me was the scenario. Gladiator 1 removed all obstacles and powerful antagonists to the "dream" Rome, but somehow all the powerful well-intentioned characters gave it up to the moron twins 15 minutes later?

I was very wary at first, but all in all it was a very decent movie, although it didn't have the same bravado as Gladiator..
