Good One
audience Reviews
, 72% Audience Score- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThis was a really great film. India Donaldson has many great films to come. Recommend!
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsReally slow moving movie with no plot, no motive and going just no where. That was a a really dull hour and half. If you want something to sent you to sleep watch this one.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars"Good One" explores issues of sexual harassment. I went into the movie waiting for the sensational "twist" at the end, as promised in the reviews. I was left feeling a giant, "meh ..." I'm surprised that none of the reviews mention the off-putting music. The opening scenes are set against a soundtrack reminiscent of a Walton's episode, circa 1977. I wondered if it was purposeful, along with the grainy appearance of the film. Alas, it was likely the product of a low budget. If you enjoy the sound of whimsical flutes and prolonged footage of bubbling streams containing less visual clarity than your cell phone video, then this movie is for you. Also, is the teenage character wise beyond her years, or is she the contrived product of a writer aiming at creating a flawless creature to get her point across? And if so, what is that point? Men are immature boys without an ounce of self-awareness, while the all-knowing young woman transcends their pettiness and offers pity, which the viewer is meant to understand as "forgiveness." The male characters were unbearably caustic and while they reflect the persona of a small percentage of men, the unfairness of casting such characters as somehow reflective of the male predicament is biased, at best. In the end, I couldn't trust the creator's slanted perspective. I felt manipulated by the writer's agenda.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsI can’t even call this thing a movie. My kids can make a better motion picture. Boring… no plot… no climax… a complete waste of over an hour
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsThis rating has nothing to do with film-making. On good conscience, I can't recommend this movie. There were pointless scenes with the character constantly using tampons, etc. Also, portraying a teen as "wise" while portraying parents in the movie as "fools" is just too simple of a take on the situation. The ending is also frustrating; I would not recommend the film to anyone. It is hard to believe this movie got such a high rating.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThe twist moment is a 10-second work of art. The camera work, combined with the silence and the actors' facial expressions, gave me chills. It's not an easy thing to achieve. How great of a director and actress do you have to be to make the most chilling moment of the film, explicitly speaking, be conveyed through a reaction - a facial expression - in which the camera reveals only an eye. I never thought an eye could make me feel so much. Beautiful work.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis is an amazing movie! Not only one of the best debuts I've seen in a long time, but definitely a contender for best of 2024. Reminds me of "Old Joy" but takes it to another level. India Donaldson deserves all the acclaim she is getting - consider me a fan.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsNothing happens you just keep waiting then it ends!
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsVery boring movie no real plot or story. It hinges entirely on one line of dialogue to try to make it interesting but to me it fails horribly. The Acting was good but with no real direction it fails to make an impact.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsSlow, sublime, and with a most satisfying ending. I can only guess audience scoring is because of the pace. But it doesn't plod, it's almost meditative. And beautiful. A beautiful little jewel of a young woman's point of view.
