Half Brothers

Director Director Luke Greenfield's bromantic comedy is a tonal mess, shifting from immigrant drama to infantile comedy. It's almost like someone created the screenplay off of the narrative limbs of others. Mendez deserves better.

For the banal Half Brothers, a beneficial perspective would be one of the "eyes shut" variety.

Espinosa and Del Rio have little to build on than their characters' flimsy outline, and neither can really make their rapport work.

The screenplay is a kind of deep-dyed mediocrity that the film and its cast cannot transcend.

This story of two siblings attempting to fulfill their dying father's last request uneasily veers between juvenile comedy and schmaltzy sentimentality, managing to produce neither laughs nor tears.

The movie clearly intends to send a serious message about how draconian immigration policies tear families apart. But a hard-hitting drama would be preferable to this strenuously wacky bromance.

Good comedies are hard to come by these days. You can not lose with Half Brothers. Having said that, set your expectations low and enjoy the ride.

A sentimental juvenile buddy comedy that lacks taste and humor but might have a heart I'm not giving enough credit for.
