Here After

There are enough bad romantic movies built on the lie that people are worthless unless they're with a soul mate. The odious Here After is even more pathetic because of its concept that people without soul mates can't go to heaven.

At best this movie could appeal only to the biggest romance fans around, but even for them the problems and weaknesses might be too much to overcome.

Clunky, contrived and uneven despite an intriguing premise. It's not nearly as poignant or haunting as the upcoming Nine Days nor as imaginative, bold or breathtaking as What Dreams May Come.

Here After does have an interesting premise, the script isn't that well thought out and doesn't really know what it wants to say about love.

This is the second feature by Greenberger, and while it probably could have used a bit of tightening, his smart script and getting solid performances from his cast bode well for the future.

Here After is sweet enough at its core to stave off the cynicism some of its more outlandish elements may engender. Try to stay locked in to Michael's pursuit of true love and immerse yourself in this better-than-usual VOD offering.

A nice twist on the typical romantic comedy formula is fun for the most part. A misstep at the end hinders thing, but does not ruin it.

Here After is a competently shot, sometimes pretty-looking film with a dire lack of vitality.

Lurches from crass humor to cheap melodrama, somehow presenting both as if they're profound existential insights.

Terrible on a lot of levels, a godawful script that was drably-cast and indifferently-directed and passes before the eyes, deathly-dull scene after leaden scene.
