Hooking Up

This movie is as vanilla as they come.

"Hooking Up" is a pretty good movie. I enjoyed it and could even imagine watching it again. But it's also the movie that shows that Snow doesn't have to be relegated to pretty good movies. She's ready for better.

Director Nico Raineau and co-writer Lauren Schacher hug the familiar beats of the form while rubbing up against its conventions with some naughty, sometimes endearing tweaks.

While not everything connects in the movie, "Hooking Up" is saved by the efforts of Snow and Richardson.

You wouldn't think that sex addiction and testicular cancer are topics that could be mined for any but the cheapest of laughs. And Hooking Up would prove you right.

Raineau flips gender stereotypes, giving Darla more sexually aggressive traits and Bailey more timid ones. But even that feels trite...

Hooking Up strolls through standard rom-com clichés, the rest of the performances are phoned in, and it dully arrives at its all-too-familiar destination.

They manage to elevate this tepid, wannabe-cool film that doesn’t deserve it.

In an attempt to set itself apart from other sex comedies, Hooking Up has some bizarre plot elements that actually lower the quality of this already lowbrow movie.
