I can't recommend this as a self-contained feature film: it plays like a TV show with bursts of graphic violence that belong in a far better script with more thematic substance. Not a patch on Open Range, let alone Dances With Wolves...

It was a.bit slow for me..the story is jumping around with no back story at times

I found it scrambled with different stories build into one going from one scene to another. I kept trying to figure out where Cosnar come into play and it was like an hour or longer into the movie he showed up. It was ok after the first part but I hope that Chapter 2 is better.

The film is an absolutely fantastic description of America's recent history and pioneer life in the 19th century.

If you like westerns you'll have no problem with this 3 hour part one movie. It does jump around a bit and would have been better had it been a little less ambitious.
