Absolute brilliant thriller, the action scenes are superb, the intrigue never runs out of steam, good all round thriller. Definitely worth a look, I've already seen it 6 times, I never grow tired of it.

Difficult to watch due to the constant camera movement that caused me motion sickness; not to mention 100 camera cuts per scene and overbearing music in every scene.

Why a 1-star? They talk about their rescue sub being crushed if they go just a couple feet more. They, earlier, stated the depth as 762ft. ....the URC (the sole provider of rescue subs TO THE US NAVY) has a max depth of 2000ft. It took me 2 minutes to look this up on Google. ...at least they got the Barents Sea depth right; roughly 750ft deep on average but has deeper pockets/trenches. -- No, the Russian sub wasn't in one of those. Captain specifically asks for a "bottom depth" before ordering the rescue; 762ft. I should be more lenient. But come the Christ on. If some goober on the Internet can look up information a writer surely can. There's also hilariously bad representation of the military; top-secret info leaking (to advance the plot), hot-headed SECOND IN COMMANDs; he just can't wait to violate international law as well as definitely breaking a few military regulations on the treatment of enemy combatants. Oh. And that's just as far as I've watched (32min). I'm sure it'll get better (as in comically bad). Fun Fact: Just looked it up on a whim. The deepest a human has ever dived (w/o being in a metal tube) has been by Ahmed Gabr. Reached a depth of 1090ft. But a rescue sub can't handle "764ft" (remember "couple more feet and we're crushed like a beer can"+the reported 'bottom depth'). -- Again. Looked this up on Google.

I liked the movie. Good action. Is what it is. I'm a war/action movie guy. This one was an overall good watch to me.

This is an outstanding movie filled with suspense and action. It is well done with great acting and many twists. I recommend highly. Critics are always wrong. When they don't like something I make sure to watch it.

Some good moments, but Gerard Butler is just not very good, the guy playing the XO was too over the top, and some of the writing, because dialogue is hard, was not good enough. But for a Sunday night wind down while I fall asleep movie, it did pass the time.

I adore Gerard Butler and he plays well in characters that are a little rouge. At 2 hours, some of the scenes belabored the action, but there were a couple of "gotcha moments". It's worth the time spent.

This was a GREAT movie. There were some technical aspects that were off, especially the total lack of OPSEC when having classified discussions, but this was so much better than what we've come to expect. Not quite as good as Hunt for Red October but so much better than that awful Crimson Tide. Acting and directing were great, story was compelling and surprisingly plausible, given the premise.

Standard fare action. Suspend some belief and is an enjoyable enough ride.

Very good movie. Well-shot, well-acted, fairly well-written. I suspect that the Rotten Tomatoes reviewers don't "get" the whole military thing and are looking for something they think should be more sophisticated, or nuanced, or blah-blah-blah. The film was very well done, thoroughly entertaining, and a very good use of two hours of my time. Excellent action scenes, great job by Gerard Butler in the lead role, embarrassingly bad role for the ordinarily terrific Gary Oldman (the things actors will do for money, eh?), and a strong supporting cast. Highly recommend.
