I Saw the TV Glow

It’s a delightful mix of surrealism and camp that is hard to describe. And it’s bound to leave you with lots of food for thought. I can’t wait to see more from this director!
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsRespectfully I love the art design and alot of the visuals, but dear god the first half put me to sleep like 4 times before I actually got to the second half

- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsI Saw the TV Glow was a movie that was disappointing in many ways. For it being marketed as a horror movie with transgender themes, there was not much development of either in this movie. The main character, Owen, is shown to be a liar early in the film which makes him hard to root for. Not much time is shown developing Owen's identity arc in the film, he should've been a much braver character with being either gay or possibly transgender. Pick one of those two themes and stick with it, the movie would have been much better rather than the flip-flopping that was done in the movie. The relationship with Johnny was done really poorly, could've had details about something that happened with Johnny and why they have not hung out that relate to who Owen is. Maddie is a bit more fleshed out, but not much time is spent developing her either. Very unclear where she went after high school, and how she got back to see Owen. The linking of Owen to Isabel was terribly executed towards the end of the movie. Linkage should have been made clear in the beginning, in which there was none then, why throw it in when only Maddie brings it up. Should be Owen remembering any sort of experiences that relate to LGBTQ+ themes. If Owen is trans, they should have shown signs of transitioning consistently early on in the movie. It is ridiculous how the movie does not seem to care about the depth, relatability, and realistic aspect of its characters. For Owen, not sharing anything with anyone in the movie and then dropping transgender themes at the end when Owen ends up married to a wife is clearly an indication of poor plot and character planning. Owen should be single if he is gay or transgender in this movie, he needs to love himself before he can commit to a relationship with others. This is the worst movie that I have seen in the last few years due to the prioritization of shock value over actually developing the main characters and the plot, along with the lack of clarity and cohesion.
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsIndulgent, esoteric, masturbatory, messy, unnecessarily lengthy and unprofoundly reflective. Fantastical fx scenes detract from unrealized potential down to earth disturbing creepiness. Meek millennial type characters are unrelatable and aggravating. An exercise in free flow creativity thinking resulting in a ride that may be unusual and stimulating for some but just annoying, tedious minutiae for others.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsthis movie made me cry so much I felt sick. so tragically beautiful and poignant. there is still time. there will always be time.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsIf pretentious was a movie this is it.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsSuch a slow, dull, weird, movie.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThat's not a movie I'd want to watch ever again. It's incredibly slow and for what it is, it should've been much shorter. It did have its good moments that gave me hope that it just might get better from that point onward, but nope. Unironically, the ending seems to be the best part of the movie. Not because it's over, but because I saw that the movie could potentially have been better if this rest of the movie was like that. I imagine this movie is what ChatGPT would have come up with if you asked it to write a movie script.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsWhat the f*** did I just watch! Smh. I can't even get this hour and a half back! There should be a psa that says "Must be on acid while watching!"
