One of the main pleasures of watching In My Room comes from feeling your way around, enjoying the ambient sound design, and making your own thematic connections.

"In My Room" is a movie about emptiness, yet it clamors with ideas.

Subtle but very sure of itself, In My Room from German writer-director Ulrich Köhler is all about having to manage solitude when what 1984's Night of the Comet calls "the burden of society" is bearing down upon you at all times.

There's a central dynamic that mercifully buoys what could have been wholly detached and the visuals are lush, but the ideas here aren't much of anything new.

An intimate film that really draws in the viewer, In My Room presents an unusually lyrical take on the end of the world as we know it.
