Truly a "coming of age" story told through the eyes, heart and spirit of a young, BLACK, girl. Oh it's so great to see more of these real life experiences reflected on screen. Nijla did something incredibly beautiful with this film; she tapped into a very specific human experience in such a tender and real way. I think a lot of us can see, hear and feel ourselves in summer, and that's what makes this film special. I hope more see it; so many need to see this! For all the fellow JInns out there :)

Loved this movie. From the complicated mother-daughter relationship to Zoe Renee's turn as Summer (she's smart, funny, determined) to the cinematography and realistic dialogue, I really enjoyed this movie. More people need to see this!

This is such a sweet story, giving us insight into a particular coming-of-age story for a black muslim girl. The struggles of any teenager determining who she is, what she wants within the dynamics of family and friends. Highly recommend.

The protagonistï¿ 1/2(TM)s layered with struggle with religion, sexuality, her relationship with her mother, and the complications of friendship/sisterhood in this social media age create high, personal stakes for Summer and the audience. Loved this film, and love that itï¿ 1/2(TM)s indicative of emotionally complex and intelligent storytelling that audiences and people need more of.

One of my favorite movies of all-time. You will not regret watching this. A beautiful and poignant coming-of-age story that I'm so grateful is now out in the world for people to experience!

Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, and a strong story about girlhood told through the lense of the talented Zoe Renee. This movie is one that should inspire empathy from adults who have forgotten what it was like to be a teenager. And it gives a rare glimpse into Islam as we follow the journey of Jade(played by Simone Missick of "Luke Cage") as she finds a place for herself in the world. Excellent work by Kelvin Harrison Jr, Dorian Missick, Kelly Jenrette, and Hisham Tawfiq. This is a movie for anyone and everyone.
