What an eye opener! The lies the Australian government have told to cover up not only the health risk but the risk to a national habitat. This will break your heart and open your eyes. A must see.

Every Australian, and indeed anyone who wants to know what is really going on here, should see this movie. It is disturbing but compelling viewing. Engaging from start to finish, with beautiful outback scenes and music, its a must see.

Kangaroo; a gripping and heart-wrenching film, that reminds us what documentaries can be at their best. As an American I was astonished to see and learn about the culling of the Kangaroos. This film completely changed my perspective and I will inevitably join the fight to protect these great animals. Stunning aesthetics, fact driven narrative, and seemingly motivated to present a fair portrayal of the industry. ( a tall task given the gruesome nature that it reveals.) This is the most important and impactful doc I have seen in a long while. I have not felt this charged up over a Doc since the Cove. Five stars. do yourself, the kangaroos and the world a favour; Go see this film.

We all probably think of kangaroos as entertaining, fascinating or even slightly comic creatures - and one look at the tail of any Qantas jet will reinforce the fact that the kangaroo is Australia's national icon (apparently the third most recognizable such totem in the world after the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty). But this brilliant, shocking and insightful documentary will surprise most viewers with its raw portrait of how Australia's primary symbol is being systematically slaughtered in large numbers - and often inhumanely, with considerable suffering - to appease farmers (who regard them as pests) and to support an expanding meat industry. Here we see from both farmers and the Australian government the same tired old argument that has been used to justify over-exploitation of everything from trees to whales: that if we humans don't "manage" kangaroos, they will destroy an ecosystem with which they have existed in complete ecological balance for millions of years. What's more, the "science" behind the industry's contention that the massive "harvest" is sustainable is egregiously poor; as a wildlife research scientist myself I can attest that the way the industry arbitrarily manipulates numbers is both scientifically unsound and utterly shameless. This is certainly not a comfortable film; parts are hard to watch, although some of the landscape images are beautiful. But I sincerely hope that when it's released in Australia later this year it will wake the population up to what's being done to their national icon, far from public sight.

Everyone PLEASE go see this movie and educate yourself! The word need to get out about the number one land based slaughter! We need to find a way to stop it! The movie was extremely done well. If us as humans do not find a way to stop the importing, they WILL become extinct!

I saw this film last Wednesday. I was shaken to my core at the lies and propaganda fed to us about this cruel industry. There is nothing sustainable or accountable about this industry. This documentary lays bare the brutality, lies, and powerful government alliances that perpetuate several myths. One, that the kangaroo is a pest. That the kangaroo is at odds with Australia's farmed animals, and that the industry can be monitored, sustained and humane. After watching this groundbreaking documentary it is clear none of this is true.

Excellent movie! Stop the war on kangaroos!

A powerful, must see film about the plight of the kangaroo and how we're all complicit. Run don't walk to see it!

Australia's Great Shame is the massive, wholesale slaughter of a national iconic symbol who are dwindling in numbers yet a covert relationship between a shadowy criminal industry and their cronies in the National Party and all the way to the top levels of Australian government, that even most Australians are completely unaware. Kangaroo: A Love-Hate Story must change a nation to enact law enforcement policies which protect indigenous wildlife. The Kangaroo petfood, K-Leather, game-restaurant burgeoning industry must be banned by foreign governments at the behest of the United Nations until the Australian Government, even at the level of a Royal Commission, bans these barbaric rogue farming practices, re-dedicating Australia's pastoral land to sustainable crops and current and future commercial grazing lands to peacefully co-exist with free-roaming wildlife which poses no real harm to farm animals. The Australian people must demand screenings of this documentary and demand action from a secret long kept in the dark. Grief counsellors should be available during public screenings for those in shock of the treatment of these beloved marsupials.

Definitely an eyeopener. Thank you for this most informative documentary. It is a must watch. People have the obligation to learn what is going on with Australia's icon.
