King of Thieves

It's kind of a mishmash of tones... [But] these guys could just sit around and have tea and talk and it would be enormously watchable.

The Hatton Gardens heist was a ballsy operation. You can't say the same about King of Thieves.

A disappointingly dour affair and not exactly the rollicking adventure about a bunch of old geezers pulling off a successful heist that we might have expected.

There's some real, small pleasure in watching these old lions at work...

It's a marvel to watch Caine, Courtenay, Broadbent and Gambon go at each other with an aplomb that dazzles.

The script (by Joe Penhall, based on a magazine article by Mark Seal) runs in fits and starts, but the camerawork from Danny Cohen keeps the mood lively during any lulls.

The very definition of "Netflixable."

King of Thieves harbors no illusions about ensnaring the viewer's nostalgia for the British gangster films that inspired it, nor does it hesitate to shower affection onto its cast.

The attempt at a crossover between a cockney-style Ealing comedy and a gritty criminal drama feels disjointed and, given the talent involved, a little amateurish.

The story of the biggest burglary in British legal history, committed by a group of elderly and experienced thieves in 2015. A great story and a great cast, both of which deserved a better film.
