I only have one question the film didn't answer. Why!!!

It's a pretty simple conclusion and there were so many hints along the way. The dialogues felt unnatural as if it was forced. Maybe due to this rawness in dialogues the bond between Troy and Jake seemed impossible to have been preserved away from the world for such a lengthy period of time. Great scenery of nature. Snowy mountains and lonely woods can justify the secret existence yet it's not realistic considering the civilization so much nearby. Great acting by the cast carefully treating the characters and putting up a balanced performance. Sincere acting by Drew and Stephen makes this watch interesting.

Not terrible.. the son is to good looking with perfect hair to have lived in the wilderness his whole life. Would have been mad if I paid for it.

Critics have it wrong here on this one. First off, not a SciFi, it isn't, period. Story has been told better in the past. Alicia puts in a good effort with a crumby script. The writing/script is a bit sophomoric and plays like a romance novel at times. The character of Jake isn't believable as related to his his fathers influence, his personal development and his relationship with the Silverstone character. The direction is rudimentary and relies on long shots of the beautiful surroundings to move the story along. These shortcomings are so obvious I am not sure how critics have rated it so high?

Smart movie. This flick should get you thinking about the fabric of civil society. What keeps it together as well as the forces that can unravel it.

It is a film that has stayed with me. Yes, the shooting location and landscape are gorgeous, the acting so nuanced, the soundtrack compelling. The storyline and themes of the movie are evocative of these times and thought provoking. It left open questions about how people spiral into deep convictions that are unmoored, how others can free themselves from half truths, and how those emotionally wounded can gently reenter society. It's a wonderful film - well worth the time.

Story kept me focused on the movie.

How is this "at least 30 mins too long" film a sci-fi? Filmmakers (the writer and director) that only have short-film experience need to start becoming more mindful of what they put on a film's running time. Of the long and dragged out 98 min runtime, the entire first half should've been condensed to at most 20 mins. Ya we get it, father and son are survivalists, get on with the story. Typical rookie filmmakers mistakes. And whoever decided to genre-label this a "sci-fi" needs to give their heads a shake. There's zero sci-fi in this film. For that matter, there's very little thrills even calling this a "thriller". Maybe 10 mins tops near the end where your heart rate may go up a few bpm. This is more of a mystery/drama film, that drags out a lot of filler, and underutilized any good substance there was in the story. Conceptually, the story is smart, but the execution was clumsy, drab, and muddled. The performances were good and convincing, especially Silverstone. The cinematography was decent, as was the soundtrack - especially the last song by Baker Grace, but the score was your typical B film nonsense; loud, overbearing, constant and annoying. If you're patient, and maybe fast-forward most of the first half of the film, it does get better by the ending, and it'd be a good one-time watch if you have nothing better to see. It's a generous 6/10 from me for this non-thrilling non-sci-fi film.

This movie is not science fiction. Should not be labeled sci-fi. An unfortunate kid tricked by his father suffering from mental illness and hate. Not recommended.

Skirts Towards A Semblance Of An Interesting Tale Of Good Vs Evil, Loyalty Vs Betrayal. The Focus On The Female Struggle With A Vague Nod To The Kid's Demons Had Me Wondering Where The Directors Heart Of The Story Rested. It Seemed Torn Between 2-Stories With Alicia Silverstone Seemingly Taking The Lions Share, Which Was The Less Interesting Person In The Film.
