Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist

I understand what [director Alexandre O.] Philippe was doing and I admire it, but I probably admired it more than I enjoyed it.

I appreciated that this wasn't just a sugary celebration. Maybe you have to be a complete nerd for craft to love this, but I deeply loved it.

There aren't many filmmakers that could hold down this kind of intensive conversation and deserve this kind of space: Moreover, there are few films that can handle this kind of deconstruction 47 years after release.

Friedkin's adventures in making the classic 1973 horror film about demon possession fascinating trivia excursion as he reveals scenes and actors that satisfied him as well as an ending that he still doesn't think works.

What Friedkin does have to say, after all this time and so many articles and movies touching on The Exorcist, is still engaging, fascinating, and entertaining.

While slickly produced, Leap of Faith doesn't offer much that a fan of The Exorcist doesn't already know.

William Friedkin is a hell of a character and a heck of a story-teller
