Low Tide
audience Reviews
, 65% Audience Score- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsLow Tide is not an entirely forgettable experience. The movie's visual style, and performances from Keean Johnson and Shea Whigham, offer fleeting glimpses of promise. However, it ultimately fails to capitalize on that same potential, succumbing to a derivative plot and uninspired character decisions. A deep cut in the A24 catalog worth seeing for fans of the studio. Full review: https://cinephilecorner.com/reviews/low-tide-movie-2019/
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsIt was an engaging film with drama and a decent plot. It was a little predictable but still worth the watch.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsoutstanding slow grind under the radar film. Loved it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsWhat a fantastic debut thriller/drama from McMullin, can't wait to see what's next in his repertoire. Kinda half coming of age teen flick but mostly paranoid thievery friend thriller, really good!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsWhat a great crime drama. Short and sweet. I can't wait to see what this filmmaker does next!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsLow budget movie with great young actors and a cleverly written script.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsWould have liked to see a better ending
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsLow Tide is a good story for those who like small stories, but can get boring and is dull alot. I give it credit for not slipping to far under the cracks and for it's climax and ending.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsFirst time director and young actors, do really good job with a fairly simplistic story. Some memorable scenes and I was satisfied with the ending. Good movie for teenage boys especially. I was tempted to give it 5 stars... but I know that's because it exceeded expectations so much, I give it 4 because I would watch this again sooner than later, if someone hadn't seen it.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsThis was a surprisingly good film from a small and underrated director. The plot is quite simple, but the performances from the actors as well as the coming-of-age feel make it different and worth watching. The script is far from bland; there are some genuinely funny moments mixed in with the somber and tense vibe the film gives off overall. While most of the characters have that somewhat generic 'bad boy persona', the incredible acting makes it all worth-while and more interesting than other pirate-esque films. Some of the camera shots provide the particular scenes with the desired effects and are quite aesthetically pleasing. The rest of the camera work is very good as well. I'm a fan of abrupt, open-ended conclusions to films, and this one was no disappointment. I would gladly watch anything else Kevin McMullin has to offer; I really enjoyed this movie.
