My Dead Friend Zoe
audience Reviews
, 95% Audience Score- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsVery well written... The characters had range that made you love them even when they were being unreasonable. I love seeing Morgan Freeman do his thing, as well Ed Harris. I'm currently living with and caring for my grandmother, so this really hit home. It touched on all the little nuances of supporting the elderly. I laughed and cried... this was a good movie.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMDFZ is a wonderful exploration of the citizen-soldier dichotomy and how the military succeeds in attracting some of the best and brightest: but not everyone can be as successful or resilient to deal with heavier things. Sonequa Martin-Green is fantastic, and pulls-off the constant flash-backs with grace and honor. The "feels" are "real," and PTSD presents in many ways. I love the other actors in this film, as well; but Green's performance is only approached by Ed Harris' portrayal of a fiercely independent veteran, himself, acutely feeling the frustrations of dementia in a world he sometimes doesn't recognize anymore. If you are active duty, a veteran, interested in the Gulf War, or just love good cinema, GO SEE THIS FILM!! 5/5 STARS!

- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsDirected by military veteran turned filmmaker Kyle Hausmann-Stokes, this feature film offers a powerful exploration of mental struggles that transcends the military experience but translate to civilian life as well. It provides an eye-opening look at the lives of military personnel, both during and after their service, while also examining the diverse societal backgrounds that shape us all. The film portrays how individuals process pain, grapple with grief, and carry immense burdens—even those that don't belong to them. This deeply relatable theme resonates with a wide audience. Additionally, it sheds light on the complexities of post-military life and how the dynamics of relationships are formed during service and to once that service concludes. While the film's pacing can be slow at times, and the narrative may seem to unfold gradually, the director's perspective becomes increasingly clear and impactful by the end. Be prepared for an emotional experience; I was definitely moved.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsAbsolutely loved it. Ed Harris was amazing. Natalie Morales (Zoe) was hilarious and tragic at the same time. Captures the modern day struggle our veterans face.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI loved this movie so much that I saw it twice in theaters. I can’t wait to show it to my teenage daughter. We are a US Marine family and are too familiar with the difficult subjects covered in this film. They did such a great job with all of it and I loved how they had cameos for real veterans.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsThis movie tells the difficult story of so many veterans who come back from combat zones feeling damaged. It is a story of healing and continuing on in life. When sometimes you don't think you can. I highly recommend this to anyone..
- Rating: 5 out of 5 starsAll I can say is I was an utter mess by the end of this. And I am better for having experienced it.
