"My Sailor, My Love" is at its best in these moments where it explores Grace’s pain.

Grace’s resentment is an astute twist. Imagine Disney’s singing teapot enrolling in primal scream therapy, except when Grace attends a support group for women who’ve given too much, she can’t let out her steam.

Much of this film is appealing, with the three lead performances offering subtle insights into their complex characters.

It would not ... be right to describe My Sailor, My Love as any sort of soapy romance. Jimmy Karlsson and Kirsi Vikman’s screenplay fleshes out a cluster of circling characters with great incisiveness.

Filled with sage wisdom and vulnerable people struggling to do the best that they can even when they are at their worst. It’s a lovely indie.

Touching story about a father and daughter dealing with the challenges of both giving and receiving care.


A tender tearjerker about a late-in-life love affair and the daughter who can't just let go of past pain.

My Sailor, My Love lacks the idealistic naivete that anchors so many romances about younger people, and this makes it more relatable in the long run.

Haro's recognition of double-edged emotions (love and need, for example) keep this well-acted movie from drowning in sentiment.
