My Sailor, My Love

Grace’s resentment is an astute twist. Imagine Disney’s singing teapot enrolling in primal scream therapy, except when Grace attends a support group for women who’ve given too much, she can’t let out her steam.

Much of this film is appealing, with the three lead performances offering subtle insights into their complex characters.

It would not ... be right to describe My Sailor, My Love as any sort of soapy romance. Jimmy Karlsson and Kirsi Vikman’s screenplay fleshes out a cluster of circling characters with great incisiveness.

Filled with sage wisdom and vulnerable people struggling to do the best that they can even when they are at their worst. It’s a lovely indie.

Director Härö still has welcome knack for making humanistic movies with grown-up themes and heart, without schmaltz. Sensitively delves into both sides of fraught adult child/aging parent relationship, with room in an emotionally haunted house for love.

A charming, tender and heartfelt love story.

My Sailor, My Love is a proper tear-jerker which gradually envelops the audience in a multifaceted layering of buried and revived emotions.

My Sailor My Love is not the first film to focus on a gruff old man’s ability to open himself up to love again and what it means to learn and grow from the past. My Sailor My Love gets most of the way there, but cannot neatly tie the bow on its story.

he script and the performances Härö earns from his cast give this one a depth and a resonance that might stick with you long after the memory of some other "senior rom-coms" would have faded.

Härö has truly crafted a poignant and achingly moving tale of love and loss featuring a superb cast. There’s a quiet grace in the austere and simplicity of the day-to-day life in this small Irish town.
