Neil Young: Harvest Time

What is on full display is the easygoing, intimate atmosphere among Young and his collaborators that led to an album that, as proven by this film's existence, has stood the test of time.

Though some distance from the seminal status of the album whose recording it chronicles, this is a sweet, gentle, highly enjoyable documentary. One for more than just the uber-fans.


Seeing his creative process in a movie that takes you back to a groovier time is wonderful.

Steering clear of voiceover narration, the film is an immersive, fly-on-the wall experience -- particularly in the barn session sequences.

A captivating document of a young man with wealth beyond his imagination whose life has been a whirlwind, giving himself the time and the space to figure out who he is and what he wants to do.

This isn't Let It Be, in that there is no drama or breakup. Harvest Time meanders. But the film’s sense of being in no hurry seems of a piece with its star and creator - who, nonetheless, accomplished everything he set out to do.
