Nickel Boys
audience Reviews
, 75% Audience Score- Rating: 1.5 out of 5 starsI had high expectations for this movie. A movie about a teenager who is wrongfully sentenced to “Nickel Academy”, an academy that is discriminatory in the Jim Crow South. But unfortunately it dragged on way too long, and was incredibly loosely done without much substance.
- Rating: 3.5 out of 5 starsThe narrative was hard to follow at times but you could feel that a person who loved the process of making films enjoyed making this one
- Rating: 3 out of 5 starsA ver powerful story butchered by strange directing.
- Rating: 0.5 out of 5 starsImportant story that should be told but dreadfully shot. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!
- Rating: 2.5 out of 5 starsVisually inspired, with an often aimless screenplay. About an hour too long.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 starsTerrible. Left before it finished. Zero character development. Long drawn out "artistic" pauses. This should have been a compelling intense story, but instead was a fragmented series of clips that did not hold together.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsUnique way it tells the story. Worth a watch and by the end you will understand the shift of the cameras. Definitely worth the Best Picture nomination at the Oscars
- Rating: 4 out of 5 starsThis book adaptation utilizes the first person perspective effectively in the infamous form school of the Jim Crow south, a movie much needed now.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 starsThis movie had a great story line, but did not deliver as it was not filmed well. It was very confusing to watch. It went back and forth in time and had many different pictures and scenes which really didn’t have much to do with the content of the movie. I was thinking to walk out after the first hour, but then it got a little better in the second half. Didn’t like the way they filmed this movie. Don’t waste your time watching this one.
- Rating: 4.5 out of 5 starsVery good movie with a powerful but sad story. The first person view while a bit frustrating sometimes was executed very well. There were some things that I'm guessing were from the book that didn't completely land visually.
