Shot mainly in gloom, mist, or semi-darkness; characters without personality; deaths at the hands of who knows what for who knows why. Don't be fooled by the eco-message pretensions. A mess from start to finish.

It's technically well made for the budget but it feels somewhat incomplete and a little dull on the whole.

Great movie altogether but a bit annoying that it's in a fictional language made solely for this movie. Noble of the director to commit...just mixes weird when you hear this language coming out of a mouth beneath a neatly trimmed mustache sported by a main character

i'm fairly sure this only got bad ratings because people expected something super gory or violent or some kind of crazy monster flick, and that's not what this movie tries to deliver. it's still a horror movie, there are still monsters, and there's plenty of fantasy elements. just don't expect it to be about godzilla or anything, and you will not regret watching it. this film invites you to a potentially thrilling movie about primitive humans and basic survival, then totally upends your expectations by the ending. it's surprisingly poignant and speaks volumes about human behavior. clearly, some anthropologists worked on this at least a little. apparently, they even invented a whole conlang for this movie, a mix of basque and arabic or possibly a few more languages according to various sources. so long as you can put up with subtitles that must be used by all viewers regardless of what language they speak, i highly recommend this film. i don't have any real complaints despite the teenage boy being a bit unlikeable and foolish, but it was part of the story. i wouldn't give it 5 stars, but i'm happy to give it 4.5

Great cinematography, great choice of landscape, the story somewhat lacking and they shouldn't have used a made up language, proto Arean or Sanshcrit would have been fine

Stone Age. A group of pilgrims discovers a new land offering the possibility of a new shelter. As night falls, the group is hunted by a malevolent enemy that quickly steals their hope of settling in. "Out Of Darkness" is a prehistoric survival tale that invokes the need of staying alive in extreme conditions of hunger and fear. It shows how the understandable desire to survive can sometimes blind the human eye, drawing a blurred line between our humanity and our monstrosity.

Not for "true horror fans" who are hoping for something involving the supernatural, but in a way that makes it a lot truer and more horrifying. A simple looks at aspects of human nature and how fear and superstition interferes with our fight for survival. The story had more of a point than the trailer suggests.

This movie had a lot going for it: great setting, interesting plot, and a creepy buildup. It is definitely a unique film that showed a lot of promise. I just probably wouldn’t call it a horror film. The film went in the wrong direction from what I had hoped, but I found the ending to still have a positive impact overall. Worth a watch.

Creative and interesting premise. worth the watch IMO

Out of Darkness is certainly an intriguing horror / thriller. I liken it to Predator set in prehistoric times. The bleakness and overall darkness of the film helps stage the escalating tension. Some good action sequences, pretty gruesome scenes and some surprises unfold, making it a worthwhile watch (considering its short run time) if you don't mind the subtitles.
