It's sometimes too sedate for its own good, but even the most mundane moments have an appealing, honest vulnerability.

In the end, “Petit Mal” is a decent film about love and its complexities. It might not be your typical love story but it is about love regardless. It is sincere and emotional but most importantly it is a decent film you can watch while away time.

It’s not a badly crafted film, just a shallow gloss on these characters and a relationship that they don’t explain, don’t dissect and analyze, but simply live. 
That’s not enough.

Petit Mal is filled with shallower personal gestures that increase the pseudo-documentary feel without giving too much away, and it comes with mixed results.

Petit Mal is a truthful depiction of the ups and downs of what some may perceive as an unconventional relationship. But it actually provides a glimpse into polyamorous relationships and the complexity in terms of feminine diversity.

The value of Petit Mal is in the performances and formal flourishes that disrupt the actors’ rhythm work against one’s overall enjoyment.

Petit Mal is a complex study about an emotional breakdown that will possibly shatter your heart out of the absence of answers, but it’s also a fascinating representation of the dynamics of a very human relationship that’s not often depicted in film.
