Redneck Roots

Decent watch, probably won't watch again, and can't recommend. It's not that the movie is bad in any one sense, it just is a bit lackluster. There seems to be a lesson about "if you're hot enough you can escape any situation you're in and find a better one" mixed with a "you should be ashamed of your past, but don't let it affect your future". There just isn't anything interesting, and I think it's supposed to be a comedy, but it doesn't have a consistent atmosphere of humor. It certainly makes its way around the offensive and absurd humor attempts, but no of it really lands. Just watch something else.

This would have been a lot funnier if they had not allowed the same tired, old, closed minded, Hollywood stereotypes of southerners, to push it's ugly head into it. In several ways, it's just another disrespectful rag that ridicules the South. That really tarnishes the moments of genuine portrayals of the South. Real life is a whole lot funnier than made up, forced "humor". So if they had just stuck with the genuine, and not followed the Hollywood mentality and stereotypes, they could have have really had a hit movie. They took a script that COULD HAVE BEEN a truly funny movie with a classic combination of humor, drama, love story, adventure, and even goofy hilarity ... They took that potential, and really missed a golden opportunity. The movie definitely had some funny moments but all of those moments were the things that reflect real life. But sadly they were somewhat overshadowed by the forced humor, grossly exadurated accents, and the inclusion of ignorant stereotypes. And what's up with some of those accents!? The ones who were just using their normal southern accent, or maybe playing it up a little bit, but keeping it real ...they were great. But there were a few of them that that really put it on so thick & exadurated, that it honestly sounded like someone from some big city up north, trying to fake a southern accent ...with absolutely no knowledge or experience with genuine Southerners .... Or a southerner who hates their roots and is just making fun of the people they grew up around... It just would have been a lot better if they had stuck with their ....redneck roots.

Worst movie I've ever seen.

Think low rent 'Sweet Home Alabama'. Not horrible, but in all ways an inferior movie.

A genuine and lighthearted movie! You don't have to be from the south to relate to Crystal Lynn's crazy family. Grandma Lee had me in tears from laughing. What I loved the most as a southern watching this movie was the details that really made it feel like my home town. The awful dresses at church, the hidden moonshine, the grandma's smoking virginia slims, the BOJANGLES! Super cute and heartwarming movie!
