I am not really familiar with Agatha Christie's play "The Mousetrap," but if I were, perhaps I would have liked See How They Run more. This movie has the look of a Wes Anderson film, it's missing the witty writing and the quirky performances. I was drawn to this movie because of the cast. I generally enjoy films with Saoirse Ronan or Sam Rockwell. While Ronan was quite good in her role as Constable Stalker, I spent most of the movie trying to figure out if Rockwell was supposed to be American or not. This is a predictable, yet still enjoyable whodunnit that is not as good as it could have been.

A dark comedy but fun and not too bleak A nice little who dunnit that hearkens back to the 1950s noir style from director Tom George Sam Rockwell plays a detective and is assigned a partner who’s in-training trying to figure out a murder during a play being turned into a feature film They narrow down the list of suspects and piece together any clues that might connect opening the bigger truth Good cast, plenty of chuckles, definitely reminds you of Agatha Christie's work but best not to make too many comparisons or it'll be off putting Sam Rockwell and Saiorse Ronan are the best parts of the movie going back and forth about clues, suspects, and jumping to conclusions She has a nice deadpan expression while he has much of the self-deprecating dialogue No doubt Mark Chappell’s script keenly identifies the most beloved tropes of classic murder mysteries while playing with them just enough for freshness It’s also very cool that the ending recounts what was discussed earlier mirroring everything with our main character like an actual stage play Very low key but pleasant enough of a murder mystery

Started kind of boring, maybe like an Agatha Christie novel, with really not very engaging protagonists, but as the movie developed, the action got a little more exciting and the ending was almost explosive, within boundaries of British phlegm.

I loved this film. I love anything Saorise Ronan has ever done, to be honest. This film is as close to a Wes Anderson as you can get without having to watch a Wes Anderson. It's outrageously funny and charming in every sense of the word. Have watched it three times now, and would definitely watch it a third. Lovers of theatre and film (and Saoirse Ronan), this film is for you.

The cinematic style was fun especially if you're a mystery fan. Fast enough pacing so you won't get bored and some earned laughs. I am disappointed that this hasn't been put on dvd, I would have liked to give as a gift for my parents who are detective fans. I will add that I appreciate it was clean with them not feeling like they had to add sex and cussing.
