Sight

Without looking up its real-life parallels, you could probably guess where things were headed. For some viewers, this predictability is like comfort food from a chain restaurant. For others, it’s the equivalent of cinematic dental work.

For all its predictability, “Sight” has a few surprises up its sleeve, especially when Wang discovers there’s more than one way to measure success or failure.

[Sight] realizes its goal handedly: To inspire us to do something for others.

An uplifting first-generation immigrant story that embodies the essence of the American dream. Dr. Wang’s amazing true story shines through, even if the storytelling feels a bit tepid.

This is a watchable drama about an inspirational true story, but the script could probably have used another pass, as it’s hard not to be frustrated by the amount of wasted potential.

What you see is what you get with this straightforward and uplifting – if somewhat bland – immigrant tale.

...heavy-handed but effective as it delivers themes of personal triumph over adversity, forgiveness and compassion.

Everyone involved knows exactly how to make this film and Sight flows, easily and without trouble.

Instead of being a collection of medical success stories from eye surgeon Dr. Ming Wang, Sight is a sprawling, faith-based biopic of Wang. There are good performances, but about half of the movie consists of too many flashbacks to his youth.

Very competent, Greg Kinnear's nice in a supporting role, but not sure it'll have the same legs [as Sound of Freedom].
