Simulant

A sometimes confused and always lazy pastiche of warmed-over ideas about humanity, technology and What It All Really Means. More artificial, less intelligence.

Gave me the impression this was just hokum.

A mixture of a heart-breaking love story, sci-fi action and a ticking clock thriller, Simulant is a worthy addition to the sub-genre.

[T]he film doesn’t try to simplify the intricacies of the treatment of simulants, leaving it to audiences to decide which side, if either, is more valid.

It’s an intriguing universe with a lot of potential directions to explore. The trouble is the screenplay wants to explore all of them. With so many threads and only 95 minutes, it’s too much slick surface, not enough philosophical underpinning.

Simulant doesn’t stimulate the mind with enough original stirring concepts to standout on its own.
