This is a really good film. Riz Ahmed gives a powerful performance. The sound editing is amazing and really showcases Ruben's hearing loss and let's the audience in on what life for a deaf person is like. It's probably not a film I would rewatch, but it is definitely a film everyone should watch.

Great movie about accepting yourself, and finding your "inner kingdom". Definitely recommended.

I love this movie! Tale of a drummer who faces an enormous obstacle.. I love Riz & was introduced to him & his talent by his role in True Detective, but I was completely blown away by his role in Sound of Metal. Riz is one of a kind! All the feels & weeps the main character experiences somehow has you feeling every single emotion.. It's incredible & yet humbling, in a way. Totally left me feigning for more!

What really made this movie work for me -- was this specific character. 🍅

The movie is all about Riz Ahmed's powerful performance, leading the difficult role of a musician slowly becoming deaf and loosing everything he had gathered for himself including his girlfriend. Watching this movie, you can only imagine yourself in this scary situation as he is something that everybody fears and can happen anytime. The movie did a great job to reassure the character and the viewers by offering a positive view on people with disability and proves that life continues anyway. The story could have been more engaging but it's still an unforgettable watch.

Mikey's Movie Review: Sound Of Metal Quite possibly the best film of 2020 (although Da 5 Bloods is tough competition), Darius Marder's debut is truly stunning. Anchored by raw performances and unlike anything you've seen regarding music and deafness, lead Riz Ahmad (Four Lions) delivers a mesmerising Tour de Force performance. When Punk Metal Drummer and former heroine addict Ruben begins to experience hearing loss, a specialist advises him that the condition will rapidly worsen. Reluctantly accepting that his music career is over (and with it his lifestyle), he begins a downward spiral until bandmate and partner Lou, forces him into a recovery clinic for the deaf. After initially fighting this terrifying new reality he begins to integrate into the new community that accepts him just as he is. But torn between the life he had and the truth before him, can Ruben find a balance and an inner peace? With smart Direction and a unique use of sound along with solid support from Olivia Cooke, Paul Raci and Mathieu Amalric, this is the very definition of 'must see'… Mikey's Film Rating: 5/5*

    Película reveladora y muy entretenida

What a performance for Riz Ahmed in this beautiful but visceral and complex story. It was a very smooth 2 hours from the POV of Ruben and it worked wonderfully adding such depth and complexity to a simplistic concept. I was frustrated at some points because you don't get to understand everything, it is as hard for the viewer as it is for the protagonist and this is just brilliant. Phenomenal depiction of a tragedy that explores all ranges of human emotions, relations and perspectives from everyone involved in the protagonist's journey. I recommend this movie it is a fantastic experience that will help you explore your own emotions and life circumstances alongside a fantastic character, 9.5/10 a must watch!
