Slavery (not abolished in Brazil until 1888) is briefly and uncomfortably touched upon towards the end of the film but the music's European and middle-class heritage is never properly explored.
The film is light on fact, but the interviewees are articulate about modern choro.
The music on show is superb - but the lack of an historical context deprives viewers of a full cultural appreciation of the Brazilian charo.
