Space Oddity

We're meant to feel uplifted, and for a moment, we are. But despite the film’s rosy resolution, as the film fades to black, the fact that we are still on a dying planet continues to loom large.

Serious subject matter aside, the movie is as bogus as Alex’s prospects of being an astronaut.

If the film never quite finds a way to marry its high concept premise, its twee romance, and its family melodrama into one cohesive narrative, it is not for lack of trying.

The film heavy-handedly relies on a climate change component to beat people over the head with a bouquet of reasons why the world as we know it is dying. True, but this film makes a good reason for why it should.

That’s a compelling set-up for a knotty family story, but not as evidenced by the surface cutes that keep real feeling at bay in this curiously uninvolving directorial effort from Kyra Sedgwick.

A great cast that makes the film hum along for the brisk 92-minute runtime.

In Space Oddity, the leading character, Alex, says space is safe and so was writer/director KyraSedgwick with her storytelling.

It's sweet and charming, if a little lacking in dramatic punch.

A little quirky and weird, but it's got sweet moments.

Space Oddity is enough to keep you looking out the window, if not quite enough to make you sure it was worth your while.
