An ordinary person who just like to watch movies can notice that this one is not that well produced, i'm talking about major aspects, like casting, acting and screenplay but also minor things like camera work, audio edit, etc. HOWEVER, the movie is not meant to be a Hollywood super-production. It's just a story telled in a movie, from a guy's perspective, that's all. Verdict: it's not a well produced movie, but it does entertain and tell you what you want to know.

Artimus did an amazing interview on the Adam Carolla Show about his story and the movie. Bought it, watched it, loved it. Thanks for the experience Artimus!!!!

For what it wants to convey, the movie it's nice, also pretty emotional in some points. There's not so much depth in the representation of the characters, except for the main one, Artimus, and the lead singer Van Zant (and also in these cases, the psychological features could have been done better, maybe in a less shallow way). The special effects didn't seem the top to me, but they aren't even so bad. In the end, the movie is pretty pleasant, not a masterpiece, but if you want to knwo what happened that sad day in seventies and you're a fan of the band, then watch it, it's worth it.

All in all it wasn't bad.

At times the movie went overboard to make a point. Any Skynyrd fan knew the drugs and booze and the emphasis on that in the movie got a little tedious. The scene with the snake crossing the swamp is another example of the producers trying too hard in my opinion, when anyone watching I'm sure had the initial thoughts already. Not much in the movie by way of really getting to know the members in the band. Just scenes that give way to forming an opinion. In the end no fan knows for certainty what exactly happened surronding the events that unfolded that fateful day with Artemis. If you aren't familiar with the band this is one perspective and a way to learn more in addition to other documentaries and books etc. What everyone does know for certain is Artemis was a member of a great original band whose music will long endure beyond this movie.

I already knew a lot about the crash and the band but watching the movie puts a new perspective.

it gave me the real true story how it happened and a better insight and it made me cry losing all those people that fateful day and overall a fantastic well directed movie

I grew up on Westside Jax. Allan used to come over to play (guitar) w/my brother when I was 8. I LOVE the original Skynard. Not sure how much Artemis “helped” anyone, bc he was alway so drunk he cud barely stand. The movie is good. I sure miss Ronnie; he was the most talented Van Zant.

The first music biopic that I can recall to cover a tragedy in such great length and detail. It takes a few fictional liberties but stays pretty true to the real story. Ronnie Van Zant was portrayed pretty darn well. The crash itself is covered in such great detail it might be difficult for some of the really diehard fans to watch. One thing that was changed that didn't sit well with me was the fact that in the film, drummer Artimus Pyle was the only survivor to crawl out of the crash and go get help. There were 3, one of which is a friend of mine. I was a bit disappointed to see he was not represented here. Those 3 guys are heroes for crawling through the woods and swamps, broken and bleeding, to get help for the rest of the passengers. Every second counted. Overall I was very pleased with the film. They did a good job. It goes to show you don't need a big budget or recognizable Hollywood names to make a decent film. Lynyrd Skynyrd fans and rock n roll fans in general will be very pleased with what the filmmakers have done here......"fly high free bird"
