It's a specific type of comedy (millennial mumblecore?) that I couldn't have predicted would be so oddly enjoyable.

Yes, it is hard to watch, but it is also worth every minute.

A darkly humorous journey through the kind of darkness that chokes the life out of you.

While not as surreal as their shorts, TAPEWORM still traffics in similar sense of aloof absurdity that darts back and forth between bathos and pathos, leaving viewers not entirely certain how they should feel about what they just watched.

The problem with Tapeworm isn't that it's a joyless experience. The film doesn't make you feel anything at all.

It's as jarring, in its own way, as the gross-out in the opening scene - and, maybe, it suggests that the best way to view Tapeworm is not as provocation, but rather, as something like a passion play.
