The best thing for me about "Texas Cotton" is that it introduced me to George Hardy, a conspicuously poor actor who, I read, had appeared in the worst movie of all time, "Troll 2" (1990). Further investigation led me to a documentary about "Troll 2" called "Best Worst Movie," which is fabulous! I always thought Ed Wood's "Plan 9 from Outer Space" was universally considered the worst movie ever, but apparently "Troll 2" has taken the title. Having seen the documentary, I can't wait to watch the movie itself. But I digress. "Texas Cotton" is awful. There is actually a decent story here—the Coen Brothers could have had fun with it---but the bad acting, insipid dialogue, and general ineptitude just dump the whole thing down the toilet. There are enough humorous bits to make you wonder if it's a satire. But I doubt that. Or if it is a satire, it's about on the level of the old TV show "Green Acres." A small Texas town called LaCoste is experiencing a plague on its cotton crops, which are its life blood. A stranger has come to town and is caught trespassing on someone's farm with barrels of stuff that he's spraying on the crops. It turns out to be paraquat, a banned chemical that kills everything it comes in contact with. The shady town mayor has him arrested and put on trial. But things are not what they seem. The sheriff (Hardy) does some digging and determines that the man is innocent, and he was framed by some evildoers and thought he was spraying fertilizer. I won't elaborate any further, other than to say that apparently in Texas, a man can be tried without a defense attorney! There's just something fun about bad movies. This one is not epically bad, just bad. But it's bad enough to watch with a smirk and some popcorn.

It would rate higher if it was marketed as a comedy. It tries to be a poignant story but it comes off as a spoof of Texas law and a Texas version of Boss Hogg and the Dukes of Hazzard.

Mildly amusing parody that takes direct aim at the genre of "Lawman discovers big local conspiracy that no one else can see, and while the townspeople think he may be crazy, he must unravel the mystery on his own". The director and screen writer did a fairly comprehensive job of poking fun at this genre. Some interesting acting from the cast. Most notable was Tiffany Shepis (Chainsaw Cheerleaders fame) as Deputy Boozer. The film is delightfully low budget.

A nice little story about corruption in a small Texas town. The acting is stilted and forced, the direction is unimaginative and sophomoric, and the ending unintentionally made me laugh. It had potential, if only someone capable were at the helm of this meandering ship.

Acting so wooden it feels like a tree branch, and a story so transparent it's made of glass, yet for some reason I felt a need to see it through to the end. Felt like a drama from the late 60's, which is no bad thing.

This little gem is refreshingly authentic in it's portrayal. It's rural, it's real, and the characters aren't "characters" that Hollywood concocted to fit in little boxes. The dialogue is spoken in an everyday manner...not rushed...and could happen absolutely anywhere in a small town. This is legit. What a fantastic find!

I'm honestly not sure why this movie is even on this site. Worse then B acting and I guessed the weak plot after about 5 minutes. Don't pay the $2.99, it's a waste.

This film starts out as Andy of Mayberry but the plot thickens into a British formula mystery. George Hardy is a very believable Texas lawman. Jason Douglas is a full of himself small town mayor. Jud Lorman is a prosecutor and when the prosecutor and the mayor are in court together you can't help but reminisce of those to actors in their scene in Jack Reacher. But in this film they both have significant parts and it is easy to see what great actors they are. Gene Jones also gets to show his stuff much more so than he did in No Country for Old Men. The plot of this movie requires you to really concentrate for it to make sense. If you put forth the effort it is a great mystery, if you don't you won't get it. The cinematography is great and the sound track is true Texas. Mike and the Moon Pies "You can't fun out on me" is a real red dirt sensation, too bad it didn't get mor play

Great movie! I lived in LaCoste and it was great to see how they utilized the land out there. Wonderful actors and actresses, loved the small town plot!
